What Causes Swollen Foot/ankle After A Knee Injury?

I fell on my right knee on asphalt very hard three or four weeks ago. I can walk now without pain (except up or down stairs) but my foot and ankle are very swollen only on that side. Could an injury from my fall be causing the swelling in foot/ankle?

Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that you got injury to your right knee . Your ankle and foot on same side are swollen. You want to know that can your ankle and foot are swollen due to this injury . Yes, due to injury your knee got swelling, leading to decrease venous return due to pressure on veins which leads to swelling of your ankle and foot. You should keep your foot and ankle elevated specially in night on pillow so that swelling get reduced. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. HI
Well come to HCM
If the swelling happened after the knee injury then this may be due to injury only, circulatory disturbances would be likely, keep the leg in elevated position, within a few days this would come around, and this is nothing to worry, take care.
