Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sertraline in few patients may cause
constipation.
Inflammatory bowel disease patients need to take low residue diet which may contain less fiber and firm less residue is useful.
In Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) an urge to defecate is present which is called tenesmus.
There are many other causes for tenesmus like haemorrhoids,
rectal abscess or infection etc.
Treatment:
1. Anti-inflammatory drugs: Taken orally or rectally to reduce inflammation and help achieve or maintain remission.
2. Immune system suppressors: To inhibit the immune system response that causes inflammation.
3. Corticosteroid therapy: Fast-acting systemic steroids for the management of IBD flare-ups by causing
immunosuppression and reducing inflammation.
4. Biologic therapy: Another subclass of immunosuppressants, such as a monoclonal antibody, that targets substances in the body that lead to inflammation.
5. Antibiotics: Used against bacteria that may be causing symptoms or making them worse.
6. Laxatives: Prescribed for those with tenesmus linked to constipation.
If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
