What Causes Throat Pain And Painful Breathing After Choking Caused While Eating?
I am home alone and choked while eating an almond. Literally had no oxygen for quite some time.I fought for small gasps of air for several minutes and ultimately dislodged it. Now my throat hurts and ultimately have a headache to beat the band. Will this just go away? Even a deep breath hurts.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Noted that you choked with almond and was short of breath; fortunately coughed out but the pain in the throat remains. This may be due to the injury caused while expelling the almond or myospasm with tenderness at Adam's apple. I would advise you the following: Get an opinion and examination by by an ENT Surgeon to see the actual problem by Laryngopharyngoscopy to know the exact cause and hence to get a proper management. Till then take a PPI like Omeprazole and antacid to quieten the pains. Anti-inflammatory medication to get relief and reduce the symptoms. Take only liquids orally that are warm and soothing to swallow. Rush to ER for the clinical evaluation, investigations.
