Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Okay, I am a myasthenioa gravis patient on azathioprine, just returned from holiday have had vomiting, diarhhea possibly caused by eating mozzarella and mushroom, obvious some sort of food poisoniong, but have had tingling of my hands for several hours now should I contact g.p.
Thanks for contacting HCM. Yes, it appears you have food poisoning. Mozzarella can be infected by pathogenic fungi and bacteria causing food poisoning. Mushroom have lots of poisonous varieties. It is best that you go to emergency and get your self treated. Please take the list of drugs contraindicated in Myasthenia gravis as lots of antibiotic groups are contraindicated in Myasthenia. Also remember azathioprine cause decrease in immunity and therefore infections can have serious repercussions. Also any kind of stress or strain in a patient of myasthenia can aggravate the muscular weakness and can precipitate potentially life threatening respiratory muscle weakness. Regards
