What Causes Toes And Legs Swelling?

I am 43yrs old.Two children (normal delivery) 13yrs n 11 yrs. I was on medication for a 1/2 yrs for asthama, now regulary not using the pump, only when felling uneasy use pump. Last 6 months have swelling in toes n hill both sides of both legs. What is the cause of this edema? Pls advice doctor. Thankyou
