What Causes Toes To Become Cold At Night?

okay! I am a 75 year old woman, good health and non obese. When I retire, my toes begin to feel cold (not to my hands)...I use the microwave heating pad, a huge pillow and several blankets. They are increasingly miserable and seems to take 3 or 4 hours before I am not constantly aware of the discomfort ....it started several years ago with just colder feet..I added a pillow on top and would be fine. NOW it is miserable. I try massageing but nothing seems to help. They feel ICY COLD (on the inside). I also have unusually long toes. What s my problem?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Cause for cold feet in elderly age is narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood to the legs and feet, though this process occurs throughout the body but effect is most pronounced in the distal parts.

The only way to keep them warm is to keep them moving, movement causes dilation of blood vessels and increases blood flow. Also you can consult a vascular surgeon regarding the same.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari
