Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband went into cardiac arrest 1 year ago, he flat lined and was gone for 7 1/2 minutes. The doctors have him on 3 seizure meds (Depakote, keppra, and Clonazepam) for the myoclonic jerks. I was reading the side effects from these meds, and on the Depakote one of the side effects is Shaking and tremor, so what would happen if he didn t take this medication. Could his jerking be from the medication or is it most likely from the lack of oxygen to the brain for the length of time he was gone? Also he has problems with memory - side effect of Clonazepam was this. Weakness is one of the side effects of Keppra. So could some of his issues be because of these medications or not? Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Tammy
It does not seems to be the side effect of medicine as long as the tremor or jerk is concern, but it has to be ruled out for Parkinson's disease, or some other neurological deficit but it is not the side effects of medicine, symptom of jerk demands the different medical tests, it can be age related too.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
