Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my grand daughter has a turqouise colored stool. I ve done a bit of research reading on the blue colored stool (she also has diarreah). curious if I should be concerned? I recommended she (the mom) keep a diaper for a sample and take it to the doctor when she can (hopefully monday)??
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your granddaughter having turquoise colored stool, also have diarrhea, wants to know whether to be concerned as you have done some research. Have told the mother to keep the sample and show to the Doctor. You are absolutely correct as the color alone does not show something very confirmatory. Hence the need to send the sample for lab tests . This is very important to have a correct diagnosis. There can be many reasons for the colored stools and changes every time the baby passes stool. The possibilities are - infection, passage of bile in altered color due to faster passage. May need change over of the feeds if the stool report indicates so. Add on probiotics mean for the age and take care to keep everything related to feeding sterile.
