What Causes Unexplainable Weight Gain?

HI, my name is Amber I am a 18 year old female. recently I have noticed unexplainable weight gain. I have taken pregnancy tests because that was my first thought and they were negative. im gaining like ten pounds a week and im sure that isn t healthy. I have not changed my diet, in fact Im eating less than usual. The only thing that has changed is my birth control I stopped using it and that s when I noticed the weight gain. Do you think I am ok or should I go see a doctor

Hi Amber
Thanks for posting your query on HCM,
I appreciate your concern for the weight gain following discontinuation of birth control pills.

It is common for females to put on weight after discontinuing the birth control pill. Because stopping the pill put your body through a period of adjustment which results in some temporary weight gain which will settle down again in a while, although it is unlikely to keep rising.

There may be a combination of reasons for weight gain such as hormonal imbalance and water retention, or it could just be that you might have started taking birth control when you are still growing.

The best way to bring it under control and reverse it is the dietary change plus exercise.

A consultation with doctor may be required if you do not get improvement and also to rule out other possible causes of weight gain.

Hope this answers your query.
A feedback is appreciated if you are convinced.
Regards.
