What Causes Urinary Incontinence?

I am a 58 year old man and I am having a very hard time urinating. It takes me 10 min to pee, and I really have to strain to get going. No burning, no pain, but the urin smells a little weird. I don t stand to pee, I sit. I don t drink a lot of water, maybe that has something to do with it. I used to be able to hold going to the bathroom for a long time, it now I seem to be going all the time. Any suggestions ???

Hi,
I am Dr Ali and I am a urologist,
In my opinion your symptoms are because of urinary obstruction caused by increase in size of prostrate. It is a male gland situated at the urinary bladder neck it increases in size after the age of 40 yrs and cause urinary flow obstruction.
When urinary bladder is full of urine its increased pressure causes urine to overcome obstruction caused by enlarged prostrate, once small amount of urine is drained pressure decreases and obstruction overcomes with urine volume remaining in the bladder. When again small amount of urine is added in the bladder by the kidneys bladder signals for urination that is the reason there is frequency of urination. Bladder wall becomes sensitive because of straining that is the reason for urgency or rushing towards restroom.
I suggest my patients to start alpha blockers which usually decrease these bladder symptoms. Prostrate enlargement can be confirmed by ultra sonogram of prostrate .If symptoms are not relieved by alpha blockers within 2-3 months prostrate surgery may be needed.
Hope this was of some help.
Regards and best wishes.
