Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Vaginal Bleeding In An Elderly Person?
my wife has been having vaginal wall bleeding. she is 71 years old. she has been taking meds for it but i think it might be because we no longer have sex....at her request....so this has reduced her virgina from being tough....same concept as dentists telling people to brush gums and teeth
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that vaginal bleeding after menopause can be a indicative of cancer of vagina, cervix , uterus or ovaries. Infection of reproductive organs can also lead to excessive vaginal bleeding that needs an evaluation for proper treatment.
Kindly consult with a Gynecologist for physical and diagnostic evaluation.
The vaginal wall would be dry and atrophic because she is menopausal and they would be more likely to bleed.
She should be seen to determine if this is the cause. The use of an estrogen or moisturizing cream, would help and may also help during intercourse (the dryness due to menopause would make it painful).
I hope this helps
