What Causes Vaginal Discharge After Intercourse?

Hey, I recently was treated for gonhorrea and chlamydia, about the ninth of December. I had sex after 7 days. I am still discharging, but I don t have the same pains I did while having those STDs. But my discharge smells terribly of ammonia and it is very potent.

Hello,

Since you have been treated for gonorrhea & chlamydia but have again started discharging you need to get a follow-up examination & treatment if required.

Your treating doctor may give you a course of antibiotics, antifungals or antivirals depending upon the severity of infection still present.

The ammonia-like smell may be due to dehydration, urine contains a byproduct of ammonia called urea. Take plenty of water, stay hydrated.

Other causes of foul ammonia smell are due to excessive sweating, nitrogen-rich diet, bacterial & pH imbalance in the vaginal region, poor personal hygiene.

Avoid multiple partners, unprotected sex, IUD, Vaginal douching, smoking, application of vaginal deodorants and perfumed soaps.

Avoid nitrogen-rich food, take balanced diet, stay away from anxiety, stress & addiction if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
