What Causes Vaginal Pain?

Two days ago I woke up to my clit hurting if I touched it or if tight clothing touched it so I went to the gyno immediately and she said it looked fine and it the pain should go away soon. It's 2 days later and the pain isn't as bad, I've been wearing loose clothing but I was wondering if an irritant gets stuck under the clit hood, will it get out on it's own? I have some ingrown pubic hairs and I read that if you exfoliate it helps prevent them so I've been doing that and is it possible one of the tiny exfoliating beads got under the hood? If so, will it get out on it's own? I'm really concerned and it's annoying
