There are two types of vertigo, known as peripheral and central, depending on the cause.
benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
Most common cause for vertigo, associated with nausea, vomiting is less. Short intense repeated attack s of vertigo lasting few seconds to few minutes. BPPV is thought to be caused by small fragments of debris (
calcium carbonate crystals), which break off from the lining of the channels in your 
inner ear. The fragments don't usually cause a problem, unless they get into one of the ear's fluid-filled canals.BPPV usually affects older people, with most cases occurring in people older than 50 years of age.
Can be caused by 
ear infection, bed test, 
head injury etc. 
Labyrinthitis Caused by viral  infection cause inner ear edema and altered signal transmission to brain cause vertigo. 
Presents with vertigo, tinnitus  nausea and vomiting. 
For your condition possibility of Ménière's disease.
