Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My three year old son has been vomiting on and off for a week, usually after he eats. Today he vomited and it looked like he brought up the fluid he drank 4 hours earlier. I took him to urgent care a few days ago and they dismissed it as a stomach bug. I doubt that diagnosis.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are many causes of vomiting-some serious and others not so serious. Is he taking any medications? Many can cause vomiting. A stomach bug is one that is not so serious because its duration is relatively brief with abdominal pain and vomiting resolved after several days. And child is back to his regular diet and activity. If this symptom continues and causes weight loss, fever, lethargy, blood in vomitus, then the cause is serious and the reason for the vomiting must be determined. For the present, the most important treatment concern is to make sure he does not become dehydrated. Be sure to offer 2-3oz of lukewarm fluids frequently (every 2 hrs). Should he throw up again, offer the fluids again. You may begin solids when he states he is hungry or it has been 6-8hours since last time of vomiting. I hope this helps your son and he is well soon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
