Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This morning, I woke up feeling a bit sick to my stomach. My period has been heavy so I thought that was the cause. I had a loose stool but still felt a bit off. I decided to take some Pepto Bismol. Bad idea. Within minutes, I was hugging my toilet, projectile vomiting. I haven t been able to keep much down since this morning and I have persistent stomach pains and cramps. I have also been stressed out, as I am preparing to take a bar exam. Is this stress-related or something else?
It could very well be stress-related. It's unlikely the Pepto-Bismol itself caused the vomiting. Your stomach was already upset and probably anything you put in it would have caused you to throw up. You also might have an gastrointestinal infection. This could cause nausea, vomiting, cramps, and diarrhea. Fortunately, these are usually self-limited. For now, just drink small amounts of clear liquids throughout the day, but don't try any solid foods. When you do start back on solids if you are feeling better, keep them simple and easy to digest, like toast, crackers, oatmeal etc. Stay away from heavy fatty food and milk products for a while. If the pain is really bad, go to urgent care and get checked. Hope this helps.
