What Causes Vomiting And Nausea After Taking Alcohol?

Hi, Doctor. Two nights ago drank a little bit, but not enough to have a big hangover. When I got home, immediately felt nauseous and proceeded to throw up for about 6 hours. Regurgitated everything I had for breakfast and even the water I tried to drink afterwards. This was accompanied by no fever or any other symptoms. Around 7-8 hours later I felt better and eased into eating again. No one I know has gotten sick similarly and I did not eat any foods that I can think of that would ve caused food poisoning. I am a 21 year old female. What do you think?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query.

Your problem of nausea and vomiting are most likely due to alcoholic gastritis or may due to allergic reaction to alcohol but very unlikely to be related food poisoning.

In such cases in my patients I usually advise proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole 40 mg or rabeperazole 20 and anti-emetic drugs like ondansetron 8mg.

Since you are feeling better and having no fever or any other symtoms then there is no need to worry much as it is likely to be due to gastritis.

However, you can apply warm water bags on abdomen if there vomiting starts again with intravenous fluid administration and anti-emetic injection will be required.

Consult your GP or local doctor for the same.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and regards,
