What Causes Vomiting And Pneumonia After A Gastric Bypass Surgery?

I am having difficulty with post gastric by pass. I frequently vomit (in my sleep) and have re occurring pneumonia. I wonder if there are any doctors who are familiar with any post op problems. I have had a lung biopsy that showed the problem is from this. I am on medications for GERD . I had the surgery in 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern NY.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This symptoms are quite characteristic for acid reflux. Most likely its present because the junction between the stomach and intestine is too narrow so the foods can not pass freely and remain in the stomach. This causes vomiting and pneumonia due to reflux.

I suggest you to consult your surgeon. Gastroscopy and barium swallow should be done to diagnose the problem.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
