Doctor - I am Senior Citizen age 65 - Usually at night I have cough and sometimes vomiting with no other cause. USG of abdomen and pelvis is normal. I would like to have your advice on Pentids 400 tab for this problem. I am told tonsillitis is difficult to cure . I want to avoid surgery. Other health problems which improved are - OA of knees, Myopia, Teeth cavities. I am retired advocate (second innings) Vegetarian No drinks . Proper exercises. Thanks. Bye.
Welcome and thanks for your query. Allergic reactions in the form of post nasal drip, GERD are usual causes of chronic cough. Short term cough can be due to viral infection or bacterial infection. Pentids is oral penicillin which would be useful if the cough is due to a streptococcal infection. Tonsils usually regress after the teen ages and usually no surgery is required unless there are recurrent infection and enlargement of the tonsils. You may be better with a night time antihistamine and a steroidnasal spray which would take care of post nasal drip in addition to any cough syrup for symptomatic relief. Do get back to me if you have further queries.
