What Causes Watery Stools And Gas When On Neocate?

My six month old daughter is on Neocate because she was having blood in her stools. That seemed to be working awesome. Until a couple of days ago she started having really watery stools. My son was the same way when he was teething. But after two days of what I would consider normal, she has become very gassy. She really strains to poop and it is very watery, golden yellow, cottage cheese looking. This is how she acted before we got her on the Neocate. Is it just a bug going through her or is it something more serious?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

There could be various causes for watery stool. Most common among them is viral infection.

Monitor for signs of dehydration.
They include
1. Decreased skin turgor
2. Increasing thirst.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Irritability.
5. Drowsiness.
6. Decreasing passage of urine.

Teething does not cause diarrhea but during this episode they put everything in their mouth which causes the infection.

If there is blood or mucus in the stool antibiotics prescribed by your doctor may be required.

ORS or any other fluid containing salt and sugar prevents dehydration.

Probiotics and zinc will help.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
