What Causes Weakness And Confusion While Suffering From Chronic Diarrhea?

Hello, I am concerned about my mother who is 74 and has been diagnosis with stress related GI issues , mainly diarrhea . She was having an episode before she took a driving trip to Florida with a friend . I just found out that she was having vomiting and diarrhea all week now with some back pain and all over body aches now is very weak and confused . She is probably dehydrated for sure but Im concerned that something more serious is going on .

Hello and Welcome to Ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your question, and here is my advice.

Intestinal infection is very likely, dehydration is less likely because it does not seems to be serious condition, dehydration is medical emergency which demands the immediate attention, condition can be managed with single dose of Secnidazole, else it is nothing to worry, for vomiting, tab ondansetron can be tried, care need to be taken or diet avoid taking spicy and oily diet.

Hope I have answered your query, let me know for further help.
