What Causes Weakness And Drowsiness In An Elderly Person?

my husband is 81, diagnosed two weeks ago with a "mild" case of walking pneumonia. There has been no coughing, aches, or fever for 6 days. However, his energy is depleted and he can fall asleep in a moment. He is generally high energy and healthy. I'm concerned about the fact that all he feels like doing is sleeping.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In elderly pneumonia may be presented with atipical features such lethargy and lack of energy. Since he is recovering from pneumonia you can wait for some more days for him to recover completely. After that if he still continues with symptoms he can do a complete blood count.Keep him in observation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
