What Causes Weight Gain With Hot Flashes, Profuse Sweating, Tiredness And Joint Pain?

Yes. Since December I have gained 15 pounds. My hot flashes have returned and I find I am sweating more. Some tiredness and some achy joints. I am a fitness instructor teaching 9 classes a week..mostly strength and yoga. I also walk about 20 miles a week. My diet hasn t changed andI eat under 1200 calories a day. My Doctor Did Blood Work checking my thyroid...a little low, kidney function, liver functin and my red aND white blood count. All okay. My ob just thinks it s because I am now my 60s. Something is going on and I don t know what else to check. Maybe pktuary and adrenal. What would you suggest?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. one cause of your problem [weight gain, tiredness] could be the under active thyroid [hypothyroidism],so repeat the test again

2. It could be due to overactive thyroid [hyperthyroidism]: resulting in hot flashes, tiredness, sweating, bone pain [osteoporosis] or check with an infectious disease specialist to exclude Lyme disease, tuberculosis, AIDS [cause of hot flashes/sweating]

3. One may go for additional investigations like ultrasound of the adrenal gland to exclude pheochromocytoma [tumor of the adrenal gland] which can cause flushing and feeling of warmth.
