What Causes White Frothy Mucus?

About a week ago, I experienced about 2 days with an extremely runny nose-very little sneezing. I didn t know if I was getting a cold or having allergy problems. Toward the end of the third day (last Friday), I had about 2 degrees of fever. I took an antihistimine. The next day, I had a headache (what I thought was a sinus headache. It may have been caffeine withdrawal from not having my usual couple of cups of coffee the previous day.) The headache went away. But then I started feeling stopped up--when I blow, I have thick white, frothy mucus. It s more one the left side. How do I get the mucus thinned out? Does this sound like symptoms of an allergy? A cold? Like I said, I ve had very little sneezing--no more fever, just the few hours Friday evening. Thank you.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Welcome in HCM

I understand your concern, you are having upper respiratory tract infection which is mostly allergic but some times super added secondary infection may be bacterial or viral may occur.

As you are having thick mucus so now it becomes necessary to take -

1- Steam inhalation and warm saline gargling.

2- Mucolytic.

3- Anti histaminic.

4- Adequate fluid orally.

I wish for your speedy recovery.

Thanks for consulting HCM.
