What Causes White Matter On The Parietal Lobe And Signal Changes In A Child With CMT?

My 7 year old son has Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) 1a. He had his first MRI in 2011 which showed white matter on his Parietal lobe and signal changes but other than that a normal scan. He had it repeated in 2013 which reported a partial resolution of the matter and less prominent signals, again rest of the scan normal. We were told this is a positive thing that there had shown to be partial resolution in the two year gap between scans. Don t you agree? His neurologist now wants to repeat the MRI as she feels it s not related to his CMT diagnosis...

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, MRI repeat can be done to see the progress, CMT usually involves peripheral nerves, CNS involvement at this level is unusual, it might be due to some other cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. SHEHLA USMAN, Pediatrician
