What Causes White Tongue With Big Spots On The Back?

Hello!

I am a female,23 years old.
I've been having this problem with my toungue/throat for about one year and I can't find a solution to it.
Last year I had a light form of hand mouth feet disease,that quickly healed,but since then I have seen my tongue getting weird,whiter and some big spots at the back of it.I thought it might be related to this disease I had,or maybe to a previous oral sex experience.So I went and got tested for HIV,Syphilis and Chlamydia,Gonorrhea all negative.My dentist told me it might be because I am dehydrated.I have no other symptomps except the with tongue and a feeling of something stuck in my throat.I am worried it might develop into something worse.Can you please help me?

Hi,

As per your complain white coating on tongue seems to be due to yeast infection known as Oral Thrush.

Large spots at the back of tongue seems to be inflamed and swollen Circumvallate Papillae that are large Papillae present at the back of tongue and contains taste buds.

Thrush occurs due to a number of causes like compromised immunity, diabetes, dry mouth, intake of antibiotics and steroids, oral contraceptive pills intake etc..Feeling of something struck in throat seems to be due to progress of thrush in throat.

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like microscopy of scraping from tongue and throat and laryngoscopy can help.

In case of thrush you can be advised Oral antifungal medication like Fluconazole or Itraconazole for at least 2 weeks.

Nystatin mouthwash and Clotrimazole lozenges can help.Take plenty of probiotics like yogurt and garlic. Drink plenty of water and maintain a good oral hygiene.
