What Could A Pink Colored Covering On Vaginal Opening Be?

Hi - I am a female in her early-20s. I tried to use a tampon for the first time and couldn t put it into my vaginal area. Afterwards, I examined my vagina in the mirror and saw that there seems to be something (it s pink colored and looks like flesh) between my labia minor and majora. Is this normal? Since I ve never had sex, my guess is that it s the hymen?

Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. It is true that hymen is a fleshy membrane that covers the vaginal opening or introitus, as it is called. It is also likely to be the hymen that you have observed. However, it does not lie between the labia minora and the labia majora. If you have seen some membrane here, please get a proper clinical evaluation. Usually, there should be no difficulty in using a tampon with an intact hymen. If it is so, suspect a rigid hymen or a septum and get it clarified. Hope this helps.
