Our daughter was admitted to A& E suffering from severe abdominal pain She had a Laparoscopy, before her the result of her CA125 blood test result was back and next day when it arrived it was elevated to 1123. Surgeon also got histology result from laparoscopy which showed no Cancer and no endometriosis ,but surgeon said she had grade4 endometriosis, failed to carry out a recommended MRI scan" to asses the cystic lesions" on her ovaries on 3rd day of her stay in hospital. She was prescribed Decapeptyl and Livial for Endometriosis, and discharged. She suffered shooting pains in her abdomen, night sweats and lower back pain. Surgeon continued to assure her that she had a benigh serous adenoma for next 3 months and refused to do any further tests. She believed him that her symptoms were consistant with the prescription which fed ovarian cancer which was diagnosed 4 months later. She was 34 years and after referral to a centre of excellence where she had radical surgery and invasive treatment she died. We believe she was misdiagnosed and high reading from CA125 blood test should not have been ignored. Cancer was not ruled out, and a transvaginal- interuterine scan was not done, it was just an ultra sound that showed up an ovarian cyst. Surgeon obviously didn't know the implications of an extremely high reading from CA125 test, which can be elevated for a number of reasons, we know but cancer should have been ruled out,as she had 3 cases of breast cancer and one of ovarian /stomach cancer in family history too close to her. Where can we get a top specialist who would be willing to research her case, and how much would it cost. Our daughter was never sick in her life, except for asthma, which she got under control.
