What Could Be The Gritty Substance Seen In Bowl After Bowel Movement?

Good day Doctor. My question is couched in my personal observation from time to time, after my bowel movement, that there appears in the bottom of the white porcelain bowl after flushing, a dark, sandy (grity) substance which continues to peak my curiousity? I am 72 years old, 210 lbs., in good health, with the exception of higherer cholesterol levels than I would like (but I am on Simvastatin to keep it in check). and I take two different prescription meds to control my acid reflux.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
The gritty substance that appears in the bottom of the bowel after passing motion may most probably be due to undigested or half-digested foods or chelation of some substance in the intestinal tract as you are taking medications like Simvastatin and for acid reflux.
Or you have something in the food that is not suitable for the intestines.
The simplest way to get a proper diagnosis is to send stool for tests that can give the proper diagnosis and thus a scope for further management as needed.
You can also do the permutations and combinations of certain foods to see if this clears out.
Usually such gritty substances are of not much significance so not much to worry about..
