What Could Be The Mass Found In The Abdomen Of The 9 Month Old?
My baby boy is almost 9 months old. Around 6 months he had his first cold/ear infection. His doctor felt a mass in his lower stomach. He had an ultrasound and it showed nothing. To this day his doctor still feels the mass and says it cold be stool. I think....STILL? His goes to the bathroom all the time :) He seems to be fine and shows no sign of pain. Of course he seems to not like whe the doctor pushs on his stomach real hard. Im starting to worry. What could cause a mass in a babies stomach. Could you please not beat around the bush either and just give me the bad and good. Thank You!
Hi, Welcome to Hcm, I can understand the uneasy feeling you must be going through. The good thing is that the Ultrasound abdomen is normal which means if anything major mass would have been picked up. Even better is that your son is otherwise totally fine and even his feeding and bowel habits good. Only concern is that the doc is feeling the so called mass every time. Although I would like to say that it must be an insignificant feeling in the abdomen but before That I would suggest go ahead and get a Ct scan of the abdomen. I know its expensive and problem of radiation exists but its better you confirm there is no problem rather than living in a doubt for ever. Only one possibility I can think of is a hypertrophic pyloric stenosis which can present as a mass in the area you mentioned but that shud have presented much earlier than this. Bottom line is get a Ct scan and that's the best way to confirm. Hope I was of some help. Take care.
