What Could Be The Post Surgery Mediated Consequences For Meniscal Tear In Right Knee?

hi - 61 year old lady just dx with meniscal tear in right knee. orthopod recommending surg, but he's not being forthcoming about what I can expect in terms of recovery period. What can I anticipate? Driving? Steps? Crutches? Let me have the worst case so when it all doesn't happen, I am pleasantly surprised. thanks

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi,
if u have not had any episode of trauma then most likely your meniscal tear is likely to be a degenerative one( ageing process). the outcome of surgery also depends on the status of your knee joint other than that of meniscus. at your age you are likely to have some degree of osteoarthritis of your knee( need xrays for exact status) so only doing surgery for degenerative meniscal tear without addressing arthritis won't help much. however taking care of osteoarthritis more than that of the meniscal tear will definitely benefit you.
hope my advice will be of help
regards
