What Could Be The Reason For 5 Year Old Kid Not Walking Due To Leg Pain?

Hi Doctor,
I have a 5 year old son who is having trouble walking because of pain in both lower legs. He just had fought a fever for 2 days over the weekend. His appetite came back Monday and seemed back to normal yesterday. He took a nap late in the afternoon and woke up being unable to stand up because of the discomfort in both legs. He was able to crawl around and play with his baby brother. Today he woke up still having trouble, but it seemed to affect one leg more. He went to school today, but as the day went on he has had more difficulty again. The leg pain seemed to switch to the other leg.
He has a history of lower leg aches in the night that will last for up to 5-10 minutes.
Could this be latent effects of a virus attacking his nerves from his lower back affecting the muscles in his lower legs?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi... He probably has a viral myositis or muscle inflammation due to a viral infection. Its quite common. If he's active and playing around unlikely that's it is a disease involving nerves. Give him plenty of oral fluids & oral paracetamol for pain...but if he starts having weakness along with pain...please see your pediatrician. Happy to help anytime. If you are happy with my reply, kindly rate it.
