What Could Be The Reason For Having A Swelling On My Neck Around My Thyroid?

I noticed a little swelling on my neck around my thyroid and lately when I take a first bite of food or a first drink of
Something I have a sharp pain in my jaws. The second bite or drink is ok there is no more pain. I recently had a thyroid test and it came back ok, but I have heard sometimes the tests do not find anything when there is a thyroid problem. My mother had thyroid cancer and had to have hers removed, but she had a large nodule on her thyroid.
I just have a little swelling. What are your thoughts?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

Regarding your for swelling on your neck around your thyroid which is painful in first bite of eating or drinking but not felt in subsequent act of swallowing.

Considering all aspects of your medical history and as you said your thyroid function test are normal, the possibility of lump is-

1- Thyroid nodule.

2- Cervical lymphadenitis.

These may be differentiated by these basic investigations-

a- Ultrasonography of neck.

b- FNAC from lump

In this way the nature of lump may be diagnosed hich will help in planing treatment.

Regards.
