What Could Be The Reason For Having Blood And Pain During Urination?

I have pain when I urinate and then bleeding afterwards. There is some blood discharge for a while after I urinate. I have some pain in my lower back but this could be muscle strain after some physical exertion the other day. I am a 50 year old white male.

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM,

The condition is defined as painful hematuria.
The reasons for having blood and pain during urination are kidney stones, prostate enlargement, glomerulonephritis and urinary tract infection. To rule out kidney stones and prostate enlargement you must undergo ultrasound of complete abdomen. Intravenous urogram can be done to assess qualitatively. Urine sensitivity and culture studies can be done for UTI.

Wish you speedy recovery,

Thank you
