Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Be The Reason For Having Sharp Stabbing Pain In My Upper Left Quadrant?
I have had little sharp stabbing pains in my upper left quadrant for several months, It has been especially uncomfortable the last week. It feels a bit like heartburn but is not confined to my stomach. It's a bit hard to identify exactly where the pain is coming from. Sometimes it feels like something hitting a bruised area but still a stabbing feeling. Sometimes antacids help. I have Crohns but I don't think it is related. Thank you
I will advise to start antacids [proton pump inhibitors like] rabeprazole 20 mg twice a day. Sucralfate will protect gastric mucosa and will give protective covering. Gastric hyperacidity can lead to pain in upper left quadrant.
If symptoms are relieved then further investigation like USG abdomen, endoscopy may be needed. Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
