Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am 42 yrs old and for the last year, I have not had a formed stool, every morning my first 3 hours are spent running to the bathroom to pass a very watery foul smelling stool. Now the stool is presenting as almost a furmented look to it and I am noticing that most times after I eat, I am also needing to run to the bathroom.I am scheduled for a sigmoidoscopy as well as a colonoscopy but the wait time is a year. Should I be requesting further diagnosis prior to this? and what could be wrong?

You could get your stool tested for occult bleeding, parasites as well. Get your liver function tests to rule out gall stones. Also get your haemoglobin and blood counts checked. After the colonoscopy it would be safe to rule out some diseases and be in a better position to make the probable diagnosis. Keep away from wheat, oats, rye, barley, milk and milk products, spicy food, oily food. Eta plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. Drink plenty of water.
