What Could Be The Reason For Pain In Left Ribs During Coughing With Negative X-ray, Blood Test?
Good Morning, I am a 32yr female that has been having really bad pain on my left side underneath my rib for about a month. hurts when coughing and bending to my left side and when i do i feel like something is poping....x-ray was done...negative and so was blood work...my bowel movements are not normal (just in case)....
Hi. thank you for asking Healthcare magic. Actually, this sounds like a case of an inflammation of pleura (pleurisy). This is often associated with fluid collection within the pleural cavity. The fact that a chest X-ray is negative does not rule out pleurisy. For an upright chest X-ray to detect fluid, the amount of fluid should be more than 300 ml. You may need more sensitive tests like an ultrasound, CT scan or a lateral decubitus chest X-ray to rule out pleurisy. Also, it is important to rule out other causes like kidney infections or pancreatitis. I hope I have answered your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I wish you good health
