My father has been in the hospital for 2 ½ weeks with no diagnosis. His lungs show a lung problem but they have not determined what is causing this. Not infection, fungus, don’t know if it is viral or bacterial. We believe his methotrexate led to the problem. No treatments seem to be helping and lungs/oxygen is getting worse. 78 years old. When I took him to the hospital he had no energy. Once he arrived he started having major lung problems & temp shot up to 104. Possibly something went wrong in the ER the first day. Next step is a lung biopsy but hospice has been mentioned. Thank you
Thanks for your question on HCM. By your history and description, I think your father is having drug (methotraxate) induced pulmonary fibrosis. Fluctuations in oxygen level, low energy, not having benefit from antimicrobials and anti fungals, clearly indicates methotraxate induced pulmonary fibrosis. So get done CT thorax and bronchoscopy to diagnose this. He may need intravenous steroids too. So better to consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
