What Could Bloody Stools Indicate?

i am a 24 year old female and had some bright red blood in my stools that i only notice a couple of times within a couple of months, I decided to go to the doctor. She did a rectal exam and also took a sample while doing this. she said everything felt fine and she didnt feel hemroids. however my stool sample did show some blood traces. she is having me do a colonscopy. while waiting for this i am freaking out. Does this mean its bad?

Hello,

Blood in Stool may be due to hemorrhoid or fissure or fistulas or colitis or polyps or telangiectasia etcetera. Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is.

Avoid spicy food and caffeinated drinks. Take a high fiber diet and drink plenty of water. Do not worry, nothing will happen, it may be due to infection also.

If the symptoms not improved, then please consult your doctor so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
