Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Cause Balance Issues, Tinnitus, And A 20-minute Nosebleed Yesterday In An Elderly Person On A Keto Diet?
I m 71 had 2 heart attacks but have been KETO for two years. No heart problems for four years and not on any medications except thyroid. I m having balance issues and must use a cane. BP normal. I have tinnitus. Yesterday I had a nose bleed which lasted 20 min.
Nose bleeds can occur due to different reasons, the most common reasons would be allergies, infection (sinus infection or cough/cold), trauma, abnormal blood vessels in the nose, cold weather causing chapping, side effect of meds (blood thinners).
The tinnitus can be associated with balance issues- Meniere's disease- this causes tinnitus and vertigo- if you can see an ENT doc, he or she can help with this. An ENT can also help with the nose bleeds if they recur. Remember if the bleed happens again, to pinch your nose and lean forward while breathing through your mouth. If you lean back the blood can enter your airway.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson, General & Family Physician
