What Could Cause Cold, numb And White Finger Post Swimming?

I have just been swimming in the ocean. My right index finger felt very cold and numb after just swimming for a short while. It was absolutely white when I got out of the water, and my index left finger was white, too, thou not as bad as my right finger. What might have been the cause?

Hi,

Hope that you are enjoying your ocean dip, apart from the problem with your fingers!

It seems that this is likely to be some form of Raynaud's, where due to the colder temperature of the water, there is excess constriction of the blood vessels in your finger, resulting in the change in colour.

Usually, the colour will return to normal once the fingers are warmed up.

If this only occurs once in a while, it is not a problem, but if it keeps on recurring repeatedly, it is worthwhile seeking different solutions.

Hope this helps!
