What Could Cause High Blood Pressure In A Fourteen Year Old?

My 14 yr old daughter has high blood pressure. Dr put her on medication last week but it s not working. BP is now 154/104 with heart rate of 54. Plus she has major headache and belching alot today. Should I wait til morning and call Dr or should we go to ER?

Hi,

The blood pressure at 14 years is quite high and your child is also developing symptoms. It is better to rush to emergency and has proper monitoring, treatment and investigations. High blood pressure at his age can be primary (without any other problem) or secondary to kidney problems, some brain tumor, hormonal disorders, or heart problems. Your physician will rule out these problems according to history and examination but he needs evaluation and treatment at this time.
