What Could Cause Persistent Anal Mucus, Floating Stools With Yellow Flecks, Abdominal Pain, Fatigue, And Poor Appetite?

I ve been having issues with excessive mucus from by anus for many months now, so much I feel like I almost always feel like I need to wipe, as well as a lot of mucus in the back of my throat, all the time, and digestive issues. But for a few days now, I ve also had hard, chunky stools with yellow flecks recently. I also have mild abdominal pain. Everything I find online is either about fully yellow stool (not my case, it is brown with fuzzy looking yellow spots on the outside) or mucus. However, I am unsure if it is mucus because the yellow parts are not slimy or anything, they look fuzzy or fluffy almost. My stool also floats, and since this started, I often feel the need to pass stool, but when I go to the bathroom, nothing happens, yet when I look in the bottom of the toilet bowl, there s what looks like almost sand..? Pale ish brown in color. I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy a few weeks ago but the doctor said it was normal. I m exhausted all the time and rarely hungry, I don t know what to do anymore. I am also a 25 y/o female, if that helps.

Hello,

Eat small portions during meals. You can eat frequent meals. Maintain hydration. Your symptom is indicative of steatorrhea due to malabsorption, gallbladder or liver issues, and fat digestion issues. IBS, celiac disease, or chronic pancreatitis also can manifest with such symptoms.

Take boiled food. Avoid fatty, spicy, hot food, do not take junk food, packaged or processed food for a couple of days. Take adequate rest, at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Get clinically examined by a GP, get LFT, pancreatic enzymes (amylase, lipase), Celiac serology (tTG-IgA, total IgA), also get Iron, B12, vitamin D (to see if you’re mal-absorbing). Also get CBC, Urinalysis & Stool examination (R/E and C/S).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
