What Could Cause Persistent Burning And Pain During Urination With Negative STI And Urine Test Results?

I m a male and I received unprotected oral from a stranger 3 weeks ago. After 2 days I started having symptoms that include dysuria, and it was mild at first. I got tested a week later (STI Panel) with all negative results, including no growth in urine culture. I got another urine test a week after that that again yielded negative results. I felt confident that it wasn t a big deal and I could wait a few more days for it to go away. Just when I felt the symptoms start to subside, 5 days ago, they got worse out of nowhere. The burning is much more intense and now accompanied by an occasional stingy pain. Its worse when I m holding my pee, and when I pee it does burn and dribble at the end. No discharge or blood in urine, just the bringing and slight prickly pain. These symptoms have not gotten any better today, and has remained constant, and its driving me to insanity. I ve been losing sleep and have been consumed with anxiety so much so that I halted my studies, lost so much focus at my job. Its not an STI, nor bacteria, based on the test results. So what IS IT? I read somewhere that it could be Adenovirus or NGU related. If its an undetectable bacteria can it be treated? Can this go away on its own? I m seeing a Urologist sometime in the next few weeks, but I don t want this to get worse or reach complications in the time being. I m also worried this could be something that cant be treated, as some people talk about having these symptoms for months.

Hello,

Do not panic, most cases like this are treatable. Your symptoms are indicative of Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). However, unless tests are done, E.coli, viral urethritis and prostatitis cannot be ruled out. After the tests, you will be treated accordingly. Untreated bacterial NGU can persist for months, but oral antibiotics are usually effective.

Get clinically examined and evaluated by a Urologist. You need to do NAAT test for Mycoplasma genitalium and Trichomonas. If the report is positive for NGU, you will be treated with Doxycycline or Azithromycin. You are advised to get done all required tests.

Drink lots of water to dilute urine, it will reduce burning. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, acidic/spicy foods as they can worsen irritation. Use warm sitz baths for comfort. Avoid sexual activity until symptoms are fully resolved and cause is identified.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
