What Could Cause Severe Leg Cramps When In A Resting Position Or While Sleeping?

I occasionally get severe leg cramps when in a resting position or while sleeping. They can run the full length of my leg and do not resolve for an extended period of time. If I stand my leg just collapses and once I blacked out. What could cause this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is due to peripheral vascular disease, where the blood supply to your feet is greatly compromised and lack of oxygen supply leads to pain and muscle cramps.

You can consult a surgeon and plan for an arterial Doppler to assess the blood supply. As of now, you can take analgesics like Ibuprofen or Tramadol for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
