What Could Cause Sore Stomach, Cramps, Irregular Bowel Movement And After Taking Laxatives, Frequent Toilet Visit With Water Coming Out?

since midday 24th dec i have had a sore stomach,cramps and irregular bowel movements.i went to the emergency department yesterday ,as they where the only place open. the doc was quick to prescribe laxatives.since starting them i have been on the toilet since,almost water coming out.i am still very uncomfortable in my stomach and am worried it is something more sinister.i have never had problems with stomach before and am a healthy eater.

Thank you for the query.

Most common reason of such symptoms is bacterial infection. It can appear due to some food poisoning, recent antibiotic usage. However, sometimes such symptoms can appear due to partial bowels obstruction. If you are older than 50, colon cancer can be the reason. If you are young person, inflammatory bowels disease should be considered.
Bowels obstruction usually gives bloated abdomen, diarrhea and constipation alternately, cramps, occasional gas obstruction.
I suggest you to visit your doctor once again. Laxatives are not the solution. Abdominal X-ray should be done, blood work, urine analysis. If no obstruction, antibiotics for infection should be considered. If it wont help, stool tests and colonoscopy might be necessary.
