What Could Cause Spot And Lump In The Place Of Splinter Placed In The Leg?

Hi almost a year ago my 8 year old son fell and got a splinter in his leg. Despite numerous attempts we could not get it out so took him to the doctors as he had a small lump under his skin which we presumed was the splinter. The doctor said that the splinter would more than likely make its own way out and not to worry. Since then he has developed a fairly large spot pretty much where the splinter went in. Every now and then i try and squeeze it and white pus comes out then it scabs over and swells up slightly. I am baffled by this. Its kind of a spot and a lump. Could it have something to do with the fact the splinter never came out?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

There seems to be an abscess with the splinter in the leg. Does he have systemic symptoms like a fever? Better get it evaluated radiologically and explore the wound. Pus needs to be drained with the splinter.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
