What Could Cause Sudden, On And Off Pain Below The Kneecap In A Child?

Hello. My son is eight years old and seems to have sudden onset of pain from his left knee. The pain can follow either a lot of walking or can occur following periods of inactivity for example after waking up. The pain is enough to bring him to tears. There are no signs of swelling and it appears to be just below the kneecap. It has been occurring for the last year on and off, about once a month. Any ideas... Otherwise the child is active and healthy. Thank you.

Hi,

As long as your child is healthy and active and does not suffer of any other diseases, there is nothing to be worried about.

The pain in the knee he is having might be related to the growth process. It will be vanished by time.

Give him oral pain-killers together with massaging the painful knee with warm clothing.
