What Could Cause Sudden Onset Of Acidity And Frequent Belching?
I am a 30 yr old woman, 180 cm height, 68 kg weight, no medical history as such. FOr the last 3 days, I am suffering from acidity and burp quite often. Haven't had any outside food but still feeling uneasy. What could be the problem and what is the solution?
The most common cause of your problem is gastroesphogeal reflux or GERD. This is due to overproduction of acid in your stomach. The treatment for this is usually an acid reducing medication such as prilosec, which you can get over the counter.
Another possibility is something called a hiatal hernia. This is when the lower esophageal sphincter is in the wrong place and doesn't work very well, which in turn causes acid from the stomach to reflux back into the esophagus. This is diagnosed by a test called an upper GI- an X-ray taken while drinking contrast which will show the position of the sphincter. The treatment here is usually surgical. I'd start off with prilosec and see if that helps. If your symptoms persist, I'd see a gastroenterologist for further workup and testing.I
