What Could Constant Headaches With Auras After Having Stitches On Forehead Mean?

I was in a car accident about a week ago and hit the windsheild. I ended up with forty stitches on my forhead at the site of impact. I was told that I did not have a concussion. I've been having constant headaches, confusion and auras. Recently, the auras have gone away, but I have developed swelling on my right temple. There is no discoloration.

Hello thank You for contacting HCM

Well it certainly sounds like a nasty wound that's troubling you.

Let me tell you something regarding headache first-- Headache specially Migraine ,is a neurological disorder due to several factors i.e genetic, environmental, Dietary etc. but Post-traumatic migraine in a otherwise healthy person is a really controversial entity itself (there are ongoing studies regarding, and there are incidence reported as migraine after head injury)

The general consensus is to get evaluated thoroughly in a case of persistant headache within 3 month from the incidence of even mild traumatic head injury.

There are incidences where migraine with aura has started after a head injury. Especially if the injury has affected a particular nerve called "Greater Occipital Nerve" in the head. This nerve gets injured if there is a sudden movement of neck. Did you hit your head in a car ? Or were you moving at the time of injury ? And just check if the headache / aura is associated with changing positions of your neck.

Migraine can be associated with blurry vision, aura, even numbness and nausea vomiting and fatigue, its always better to get checked up by a neurologist at first to rule out any other organic causes as well as nerve injury.

Since its already been a week so my advice would be not to waste any more time and contact to your nearest ER , probably get a MRI done at the earliest and as well as get evaluated by a Neurologist

Hope this'll help you and thanks again for contacting HCM , will see you soon again
